Election manifesto Time.

As we have a General Election just around the corner, all the parties are putting the finishing touches to their manifesto presentations. These are really important and interesting design opportunities - essentially, they are trying to re-brand the UK in their own image, and it's a fascinating look at the image industry in action.

The main Parties are already out - and Labour have gone for a retro, soviet / utopian style image with a truly terrible typographic layout - it's very ugly, The image looks like one of the 1930's advertising images for suburban housing . The Consevatives have gone for a rather dull looking exterior - but have used some quite good typographic images in the style of Alan Kitching ( see image ) to jazz up their offer.

The Conservative party website is also really quite well done and very dynamic despite a simple grid layout - as is the Green Party.

Of course - I'll leave it up to you to decide who your favourites are - but you should be keeping an eye on the visual side of things. the interactive election night graphics are always are real flagship event for the TV design departments. I have set some projects for the first years that mirror what's happening on the news - so pay attention now.
