Goldsmiths: But is it art?

 Monday April 12th 9pm - BBC4

There are many opportunities to shake your head in disbelief at some of the ideas expressed by the fine arts masters degree students in Victoria Silver's engaging film - mostly involving Roisin: "I shoplift things, eat them, and s**t them out. And that's the work." But you're also pulled into the hectic months the students face finishing works for a show that will be attended by thousands and could see them snapped up by galleries or selling works for big money. A critical remark from a tutor just before the show leaves Ian, who is in debt up to his eyeballs, uncertain as to how to proceed. And the person most people will identify with, former armour designer Thomas, is bemused when he changes his work thanks to the criticism of it being literal and is then told a piece isn't clear in its intentions. You may feel, as Thomas does, that "I don't get it," but if you enjoyed School of Saatchi, you'll enjoy this.
