More on The Independent Redesign

This weeks re-designed Independent on Sunday is actually very good, the changes are subtle but clever - the layout is much improved and difficult pages like the TV listings are far easier to read. In an age when people are encouraged to glean their news from the internet - traditional press needs to compete aggressively. The Times is about to charge for access to it's website ( a bold, but I think mistaken move ) so all the other media outlets are reassessing how they perform. The guardian already has by far the best conceived website, but it's incredibly expensive to run and loses them a fortune every year. The Independent site is actually quite poor, but perhaps investment from the new owners will address that.

This week - among other things, there is an article about the rise in popularity in Russian Art ( there is an excellent gallery of 20th century Russian Art on Norman Road ) and a detailed and very complimentary story in the travel section about Hastings and Battle as a 'Staycation' destination. There is also a really usefull spread about the 'Hand' motif used in the Iconography of Ulster - you can link through here - really handy for the First Years and the Wednesday briefs.
