Iconic Images from The Vietnam War

There is an excellent slideshow on the Telegraph Website of some of the most iconic photographs from the Vietnam War ( it's the 35th Anniversary of the fall of Saigon ), if you did your research properly for the FDA1 Esquire brief, you will recognise many of them. Some of these pictures were taken the year I was born - and it's sobering to think that most of the American Soldiers in these photographs were the same age as you are now.

Having a good knowledge of social, political and cultural history is essential in the communication industry - you need to have a healthy interest in the world, be able to reference iconic and important images and understand that they have meaning and be able to use them effectively and responsibly.

Your brain is hardwired to make connections between things it has already seen, you can use this to add depth and meaning to your work and reinforce messages.

Most of the photographs reproduced here have huge cultural significance in America and many of the people in them are known by sight and name by generations - that's the power of photography.
