Brilliant opportunity for all students.

This has just come n - it's an amazing opportunity and you would be frankly, stupid - not to consider it....

Project Brief for Creative Students:

Create an installation for large lift space at Towner, Eastbourne

On 16 October 2010 Towner in partnership with Melting Vinyl are staging an evening of Art and Music to celebrate the forthcoming exhibition devoted to Robert Mapplethorpe.

Provocateur. Innovator. Icon. Artist Rooms: Robert Mapplethorpe at Towner feature over 50 of Mapplethorpe's most defining works from the 1970s and 1980s including Andy Warhol, Patti Smith, Marianne Faithfull and Lisa Lyons.

Towner and Melting Vinyl invite proposals to transform the interior of the lift for that evening, using the exhibition as inspiration.  The installation can combine live performance as long as it is within the lift space. Other events happening on the same evening are live music, films and spoken word.
Technical Info : The lift space is approx in metres 3W x 4L x 4H  with doors opening on one side.
Nothing can be screwed into walls/ floor/ceiling and all temporary fixings (tape/ blue tac) needs to be removed afterwards

Any lights/ music etc will need to be powered by batteries as there are no sockets within the lift
Materials to be provided by Towner and artists will have 2 hours prior to the event to install the work
Please email all proposals with a maximum of 3 jpegs to team.towner@eastbourne.gov.uk deadline Friday 1 October.

Utilizing two levels of Towner, the entrance of the building for an art college/younger aged artists, to set the scene, the café for another more singer-songwriter base group, the room off the cafe for the DJ with the room sliding back.

Areas lit from floor to ceiling by floor lights in darker colours.

The idea is to create an art/club atmosphere from the period, each room offering an experience, away from the exhibition. (Drinks cannot be taken into the exhibion)

To further the atmosphere readings of Patti Smith from ‘kids’ book of the week Radio 4 in between the songs.

An art installation/performance art or even tape player with music or words in the lift, a brief for this for a local or Brighton based art college, foundation /degree, photography or fashion.
