I do like nice clean portfolios, but Qubik's work is so sterile... I clicked on a link that read "Hell Yes" expecting to finally see something less restrained, but alas - another dull colour scheme in combination with all-pervasive seriousness.
There will always be a market for controlled, disciplined design - and most clients will shy away from anything too 'creative' - but within that - there is scope for real skill and finesse, which is what this site communicates - some of the less exciting looking work reveals itself as very polished and academically strong - I really like the quality of the layout on the 'Forty Part Motet' work - really well balanced page layout - far more skilled than you might give it credit for.
Oh no, I wouldn't dream of accusing Qubik of a lack of skill! Their typography IS amazing — it's just that most designs seem so cold and devoid of any emotion. Bauhaus influences? Hmmm... Something to mention in my essay.
